SOLV IT Goes Statewide in 2010!

SOLV is excited to announce that our annual Earth Day event, SOLV IT, will be bigger and better than ever in 2010! SOLV IT, presented by Portland General Electric, engages volunteers in cleanup of litter and illegal dumpsites, non-native invasive plant removal, native vegetation planting, and watershed maintenance and monitoring activities.

In the past twenty years, SOLV IT volunteers have removed 7,049 tons of debris from illegal dumpsites, neighborhoods and natural areas. This spring, SOLV projects will take place across the state of Oregon for the first time ever for the 40th Anniversary of the original Earth Day!

On Saturday, April 17th, thousands of volunteers will converge on approximately 125 project sites throughout Oregon and work together to SOLV IT.

Between April 12th and April 23rd over 3,000 students will participate in approximately 75 service-learning projects to improve their local environment.

This is your opportunity to become a SOLV IT event coordinator and to apply for assistance for your community volunteer project as part of this great event!

Program Details

Event Date: Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (School Service-Learning Projects may take place any time April 12th – 23rd, 2010)

Geographic Area: Anywhere in Oregon

Project Application Deadline: Extended to February 7th, 2010

SOLV provides all approved projects with the following support:

• Project Planning Assistance by SOLV staff
  
• Project Planning Reference Guide (step-by-step guide to coordinating a SOLV project)
  
• Event flyers and pre-event publicity
  
• Assistance with volunteer recruitment and placement, including online registration, confirmation emails to all online registrants, and volunteer registration/waiver forms
  
• Free materials such as litter bags, vinyl gloves, safety vests, first aid kits, and sharps containers
  

In addition, a limited number of SOLV IT projects may receive:

• A maximum reimbursement of up to $100.00 to cover qualifying project expenses

If you have a project to be considered for SOLV IT 2010, please complete the online project application form by January 31st.

Unfortunately, we cannot approve all applications due to ever-increasing demand for SOLV services and limited resources. You will receive notification as to whether or not your application has been approved by February 1st. You are also encouraged to contact us directly to discuss potential projects or to ask any questions you may have.
