2011 SOLV Citizenship Awards

Great volunteers need to be recognized.

The SOLV Citizenship Awards and Banquet were established in 1994 by SOLV and Bank of America as a unique way of recognizing volunteers from all across the state for their work to keep Oregon beautiful and liveable.

Each year, SOLV honors special Oregonians that are having a positive impact in their communities. These volunteers embody the spirit of volunteerism to improve the environment which is at the heart of SOLV's philosophy. Nominees are chosen on a statewide basis. Winners are selected by independent committees and honored at our Annual Citizenship Awards Banquet in the fall.

The SOLV Citizenship Awards recognize outstanding businesses, community groups, educators and individuals whose volunteer and community work reflects SOLV’s mission of bringing Oregonians together to preserve the environment and build a legacy of steawardship. Award winners will be honored at the Banquet.

Congratulations to the 2011 Honorees!

The banquet honors the Tom McCall Leadership Award recipient. This award was created in 1994 and named for Oregon’s renowned governor and SOLV founder.

The 2011 Tom McCall Leadership Award recipients
are Ken and Joan Austin of Newberg.

Ken and Joan Austin are the co-founders of A-dec, Inc., the largest privately owned dental equipment manufacturing company in the United States. A-dec is the worldwide leader in dental industry known for its commitment to create innovative solutions for the betterment of dentistry. In September 2009 the couple opened the estate-style Allison Inn, restaurant and spa near Newberg.

The Austins are active community members. Joan oversees the philanthropic activities of their businesses. She helped establish both the Austin Family Business Program and the Austin Entrepreneurship Program at Oregon State University. Ken is currently a member of the Newberg Rotary Club, the President’s Council of the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America, World Presidents' Organization, and a Lifetime trustee of George Fox University.
